Premchand Jayanti
Delhi Public School, Durgapur celebrated ‘Munshi Premchand Jayanti’ on July 29, 2022 in the school auditorium. The day was dedicated to ‘the Upanyas Samrat’, a representative of lower middle class society, who was one of the first authors to write about caste hierarchies and plight of women and poor labourers. The programme started with lighting of the lamp. The Principal addressed the students and said that Munshi Premchand introduced realism to the society. Munshi ji wrote about problems like poverty, hunger and feudal system. The real heroes of his novels were common labourers and farmers.
Certificates were awarded to the winners of Hindi Creative Writing Competition. The plays ‘Subhagi’ and ‘Hashiye Par Pare Samaj ke Lekhak: Premchand’ were presented on stage by the students from classes 7-10 The programme ended with the vote of thanks by the school Dr. (Mrs) Shobha Thakur. Amidst applause and appreciation it was a gala presentation.
